This project was implemented between September 2022 and April 2023 in 10 communities and 20 schools in the Yilo Krobo Municipality. The objective was to empower young girls to prevent teenage pregnancy. The project also mobilized 10 communities to identify teenage mothers and provide them with skills training. The project was supported by STAR-Ghana Foundation with funding from Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Key results of the project are as follows;
- We have empowered 500 adolescent girls to reduce teenage pregnancy in 20 Junior High Schools through formation of girls’ clubs in each school where they are educated on their reproductive health rights.
- Through this program, a girl who was suffering from sexual abuse by her male counterpart reported and she was rescued. Additionally, two (2) girls who have dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy returned to school to continue their education.
- Increased acceptance of adolescent reproductive health services in the 10 communities through community and household outreaches and education by the trained volunteers and peer educators.
